~ About Our LED Art Lights ~

We offer a carefully-selected range of LED art lights, to suit varying needs and budgets.

The Gallery Art Light LED picture light for bespoke lighting of your art.

Well-established and widely acclaimed as The Rolls Royce among picture lights, the Gallery Art Light has been painstakingly developed to address the many and varied challenges associated with lighting all paintings correctly – regardless of size, shape or genre.  A Gallery Art light can even be fabricated in continuous lengths up to 3M long.

Not only is the primary hardware – head dimensions and arm length – sized to suit each painting, but every single discrete LED module is also optically lensed to suit the specific characteristics and orientation of the canvas.

Uniquely, these LED modules are each adjustable in terms of their location and rotational tilt, as they are clipped into place, individually, inside the head. Critically, this means that the independent LED lamps themselves can be replaced for future maintenance needs. Hence your purchase of a Gallery Art Light will be as equally valued and enjoyed by generations to come as it is today.

FineLine Range of Art Lights

The FineLine Art Light range is available in an easy-to-specify selection of sizes, and features the same high-quality LEDs as the Gallery Art Light model.

These are built into the slimline profiled head in a pre-set linear arrangement. Varying optical lenses are then carefully selected and applied during manufacture to suit the canvas orientation – Portrait or Landscape – and its overall size. The FineLine Art Light has been designed to deliver beautiful and balanced lighting from the smallest possible classic-shaped light head. With elegant slender arm supports which provide adjustment in height and articulation, the span of light distribution belies the discreet profile of the hardware.

The FineLine Art Light range is available in our online store allowing you to order your wall art light from the comfort of your home. The standard range is sized in 6” increments, from 6” up to 48” in head length. Larger lights can be custom manufactured for sizes up to 3 metres long.

The picture lights come in five standard colours and custom colours are available on request.

All our Fineline Art Lights can also be powered using our Intelligent Battery Power Supply.

The Very Diddy Art Light packs a mighty punch from a tiny size (2.5” head) – and can light surprisingly large canvases with minimal visual impact from the fixture itself.
It derives its impeccable pedigree – indeed, even its name – from its widespread use throughout our Royal Households here in the UK.

It contains a single LED, lensed to deliver a controlled but well-distributed beam of light, ensuring whole canvases, measuring up to 35cm x 25cm (14” x 10”) for a Portrait orientation and 25cm x 35cm (10” x 14”) for a Landscape orientation, can be lit.

Intelligent Battery Power Supply

Our Fineline Art Lights can be powered using our Intelligent Battery Power Supply. This means that good quality, reliable, lighting can now be provided for paintings to whose location there is no mains power. We have developed a uniquely-sophisticated control and monitoring system which regulates the power drawn from the batteries so that the light works consistently and without the usual irritations of flickering and colour shift. For each picture light size, a corresponding array of batteries is provided which delivers up to 50 hours of running time before the batteries need to be re-charged.

~ Braided Cable ~

Two artworks hung one above the other, both have gold Picture lights lighting their subjects. They are hung using a coloured braided cable to match the wallpaper.

An alternative to battery power is to use cable sympathetic to the decor and surroundings. This can easily be run to a nearby socket and, if well colour matched, blends in seamlessly.
We offer a huge range of colour options and can even custom colour match if needed.

Charter Lighting uses only consistent-quality, High-CRI LED light* sources and ancillary components, to bring out the truest colours in your paintings and to minimise flicker when dimming.

Energy consumption is genuinely minimal (from 2W for The Diddy up to less than 30W for a huge 60” Gallery Art Light). This means that it is feasible to power some of our picture lights from a battery without the re-charging schedule becoming too demanding.

All our artwork lighting products emit no heat or UV, and are reliable and durable. There is no risk whatsoever of damage to your painting, and an excellent life expectancy is assured.

Our R&D department is constantly researching ways to improve on these key areas in order to continue to supply exceptional quality lighting and to meet the most exacting standards.

Our LED art lights come in 5 standard finishes as shown - the most widely used being the Classic Old Gold.

  • Classic Old Gold

  • Antique Bronze

  • Anthracite

  • White

  • Black

They are hand painted here in our UK workshops, using carefully applied paint-spray and curing techniques for wet paint finishing, ensuring a rich lustre and a resilient surface.

Further bespoke colour matching and finishes can be achieved on request.

All of our LED art light components are hand-assembled, hand-finished and quality checked here in the United Kingdom.

Our workshops are equipped with a CNC machine, lathe, and 3D printing facilities, which means we are able to respond with unusual speed and agility for the provision of bespoke solutions when the need arises.

We believe passionately in promoting and developing British crafts and craftsmanship, and our skilled workforce embraces this commitment.

During installation, the painting would usually be carefully de-mounted from the wall and small brackets are then fixed either to the picture frame or onto the wall.

The picture light arms are then slotted back into place and the head alignment made good. Once in place, the individual LED modules, where used, can be adjusted, or the whole head tilted until the optimum light coverage has been achieved.

Definitions & Terminology

High-CRI LED Lighting

  • HIGH-CRI LED LIGHTING IS A LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE LIGHT SOURCE THAT OFFERS A HIGH COLOUR RENDERING INDEX.

  • CRI (COLOUR RENDERING INDEX) IS A QUANTITATIVE MEASURE OF A LIGHT’S ABILITY TO REPRODUCE COLOURS OF OBJECTS ACCURATELY IN COMPARISON WITH AN IDEAL NATURAL LIGHT SOURCE.

  • AN LED (LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE) IS A SEMICONDUCTOR LIGHT-SOURCE THAT EMITS LIGHT WHEN ELECTRICAL CURRENT FLOWS THROUGH IT.

  • LEDs HAVE ADVANTAGES OVER INCANDESCENT LIGHT SOURCES (TRADITIONAL LIGHT BULBS), INCLUDING LOWER ENERGY CONSUMPTION, LONGER LIFESPAN, IMPROVED PHYSICAL ROBUSTNESS, SMALLER SIZE, AND FASTER SWITCHING.

  • LEDs ARE USED IN APPLICATIONS AS DIVERSE AS ART LIGHTING, LIGHTED WALLPAPER, AVIATION LIGHTING, AUTOMOTIVE HEADLAMPS, ADVERTISING, TRAFFIC SIGNALS, PHONE CAMERA FLASHES, HORTICULTURAL GROW LIGHTS, MEDICAL DEVICES, AND GENERAL LIGHTING.
